چکیده

freezing suggests that the rhabdoms of B. thermydron beyond the first juvenile crab stage may be resistant to the chemical fixation used for anatomical analysis. Rapid freezing of crabs collected remotely under low light conditions at infrequently visited vents may be required to determine the in situ state of adult and latejuvenile eyes. Because related shallow-water brachyuran crabs do not undergo visual metamorphosis, the metamorphosis of the eyes of B. thermydron described here appears to be a specific adaptation for life at the vents. Sediment microbiomes associated with critical habitat of the Juvenile American Horseshoe Crab; Limulus polyphemus

Plumb Beach, Brooklyn, New York in USA is an important horseshoe crab breeding and nursery ground that has experienced substantial anthropogenic influence, including pollution, erosion and subsequent restoration. Since little is known about the relationship between sediment microbial communities and juvenile horseshoe crab survival, next generation sequencing was used to characterize and compar...

Opsin expression in Limulus eyes: a UV opsin is expressed in each eye type and co-expressed with a visible light-sensitive opsin in ventral larval eyes.

The eyes of the horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus, are a model for studies of visual function and the visual systems of euarthropods. Much is known about the structure and function of L. polyphemus photoreceptors, much less about their photopigments. Three visible-light-sensitive L. polyphemus opsins were characterized previously (LpOps1, 2 and 5). Here we characterize a UV opsin (LpUVOps1) th...

Effect of curcumin on rat sperm morphology after the freeze-thawing process

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, induced by the cryopreservation process, can be responsible for mammalian sperm damage. Curcumin is known as an effective antioxidant against oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of curcumin on sperm count, motility and viability, semen total antioxidant capacity and DNA integrity of rat spermatozoa during semen freeze-tha...

Derived Photosensitive Pigments from Invertebrate Eyes

The red pigment in the eyes of the squid, blue crab, and horseshoe crab becomes photosensitive when treated with formalin, and bleaches in the light. The resulting change in density is approximately symmetrical around a maximum at 480 mmicro in the blue green. This difference absorption spectrum is in rough agreement with the spectral sensitivity of the cephalopod eye and differs only slightly ...

Inm-5: Outcomes of Human Vitrified Embryos Transfer

The techniques of cryopreservation let embryos which cannot be immediately transferred to the patient be stored for future use. The first successful pregnancy after transfer of cryopreserved human embryos was described in 1983 by Trounson et al. and the first birth after cryopreservation was later reported in 1984 by Zeilmaker et al.). The technique has rapidly been applied in most in-vitro fer...
